CHSSA Sports and Extra-Curricular Opportunities
The Summit Academy does not have a sports program and has been designated as a “school without a program” by CHSSA (Colorado High School Activities Association). Therefore, our students may participate in sports at other schools per the guidelines below. The school at which you choose to play has discretion to allow, or not allow, homeschooled students to participate. The below guidelines apply to Summit full and part-time students.
1. Students may participate in sports at any high school in their district of attendance (Jefferson County) or in their district of residence.
2. Students are responsible to complete all assignments by the following class period. In order to help the student maintain their grades, no allowance of extra time is given as in the case of an illness. For instance, if a student misses a Thursday class and an assignment is given and due the following Thursday, the athlete must complete the assignment on time.3. If a student chooses to skip the 8th grade to enroll at Summit, the student must participate in sports and activities at the high school level. They may not participate on an 8th grade team.
4. Students have 8 semesters of high school eligibility. The first semester they are registered as a 9th grader starts their eligibility clock whether or not they choose to play a sport or not.
5. If a student enrolls at Summit, and chooses to participate in a sport or activity at another school, the student and/or parent must complete a Sports Verification Form and submit it to the main office. The completed form will excuse the students from absences related to their sports games. If the form is not completed, the student will be marked un-excused for all related absences and their class grade will be impacted.

Missing Summit Classes for Practices
Summit encourages students to participate in sport programs and is appreciative of schools who provide the opportunity for our students to play. However, missing a Summit class for practice is discouraged. Summit classes are one day per week. Parents are expected to notify the coach of Summit’s position and request that the student be allowed to arrive at practice late on their Summit day. In most cases the student would only be missing a few minutes.
