Welcome to primary (K-2) technology at Jefferson Academy.
I am thrilled to be at Jefferson Academy for my ninth year in technology. Prior to this I taught seven years of high school science, stayed home with my kiddos (both JA graduates) and subbed. Jefferson Academy is an amazing place to learn and work! Email Mrs. Noland
We use the Core Knowledge Science curriculum for computer science which uses the CSTA Standards. We also meet the Colorado State Academic Standards for Computer Science for K-2.
In kindergarten, students will gain essential technology skills. They will learn how to use a Chromebook and a mouse. They will engage with a learning management system called Seesaw and use many of its tools, providing a foundation for using other programs in the future. Additionally, they will become familiar with the keyboard and explore basics in coding, ensuring a well-rounded foundation in digital literacy.
In first grade technology, students will develop a range of digital literacy skills. They will learn how to use Google Classroom for assignments. They will also learn about responsible online behavior, Additionally, they will acquire hands-on skills, including navigating a Chromebook to use programs such as Google Slides and Google Sheets. Students will delve into more advanced concepts such as coding and loops and will even get a chance to program a Beebot. Overall, first graders will build a solid foundation in technology.
In second grade technology class, students will acquire essential skills such as using Google Classroom, including in-depth competence with Google Slides. Students will also spend time exploring digital citizenship and learning key concepts in coding and robotics. Finally, students will learn the importance and basics of touch typing. Overall, the class provides a comprehensive foundation in technology.
